Hamid spent his childhood under his parents' Berber nest, living in nomad tents in the desert of the Erg Chebbi Dunes. When he was nine years old he had his very first job -- he was responsible for feeding the family's livestock as they were moving on from the mountains to the dunes and to small villages. He did this for the next seven years. It was during this time he realized his passion to work in the tourism field.
As a child, Hamid used to run next to and after tourist jeeps, smelling their dust, helping the visitors when they were lost, especially after it turned dark, showing them the way back to the main roads. It was during this time that he started to learn more and more, trying to help the visitors he came across in his desert home by making picnics and offering other needed advice. Within a fairly short time he became quite knowledgeable about Merzouga, the village where he was born and where he spent the unforgettable part of childhood.
His studies were a bit eclectic at first until his family moved to Erfoud, the gateway of the desert. This was because he was trying to divide his time between studying, exercising and his passion for helping out the tourists. Additionally, because of the harsh weather conditions in the area at the time, many of Hamid’s new location teachers were absent from the class-lessons in the school.
It’s always been Hamid's plan to study, discover and explore as many new things in life as he can. Because his grandparents helped him to learn survival skills, he also learned about being prepared for life itself.
His grandparents strength developed in part from fighting in the war (Moroccan tribes against French encampments about the colonies).
After moving to Erfoud, Hamid made the decision to devote himself completely to his studies, especially to become fluent in the English language. He always tried to practice his English with his teachers, regardless of whether they were Berber , Spanish , French or Arabic speaking. After finishing his earlier studies, and with the additional motivation of his teachers, he continued his studies in Marrakech. He worked over school holidays and any way possible after realizing that his family could no longer support his education. His passion to succeed and follow his dream gave him the motivation he needed to further his education and support himself.
After completing school, he finally got the very first job as a driver and a tour guide which he has continued to do ever since those earlier years. This is what brings him great happiness -- Hamid loves helping to show his country to visitors, to offer information, history and stories about the Berber people and to take visitors to the most precious places in the beautiful countryside where he lives. He personally wishes that in the future more and more people will explore Morocco with his help and assistance and he will do his best to make their journey unforgettable.
Along with his good friends, Louise and Marta, from Barcelona, Spain, Hamid has now created his own travel business and looks forward to showing visitors from around the world, the highlights of his desert homeland.
Erg chebbi dunes are located in Merzouga, where Hamid opened his eyes for the first sight of his life. Ergchebbi dunes are located on the East and the black rocky sub-Saharian land is on the West.
