Former co-owner and senior manager of Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge, Gonzalo Horna has been birding the central Panama and the adjacent lowlands and highlands areas since 1997.
Attending groups and individuals, he has mastered the needs and logistics to make a birder´s journey a successful one.
In 2007, he launched a leading birding tours company dedicated to promote such tours within Panama specializing in the area of Central Panama (Soberania National Park -Pacific side) and on Achiote Road (San Lorenzo National Park -Caribbean side).
As complement, Gonzalo implemented a unique Birding By Boat Tour to explore avifauna (and related birds), from the fresh water of Gatun Lake - (Panama Canal basin) which are often difficult to see on foot even in secluded areas. On request, other Panama areas are also visited for birding like El Valle, Cerro Azul, Darien and Chiriqui.
Gonzalo Horna is an active member of the Panama Audubon Society (PAS). He has been actively involved with the Embera Quera indian community located at the Panama Canal basin (on the Caribbean east side) in helping them develop a tourism program with emphasis on birding. And with the local government conservation programs he have served at national level.
Its wide ranging interests include butterfly, mammals, insects, good food, cooking and hosting.
