Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari is one of the biggest churches in Venice and an important example of Franciscan Architecture. The church dates back to the 14th century. The bell tower, one of the highest in Venice, was built in 1396.
The inside is overwhelming. On the main altar you can admire the revolutionary Assunta and the Pesaro altar decorated by a true masterpiece by Titian; in the Pesaro Chapel there is still the Vergine col bimbo e santi by Giovanni Bellini (1488).
Few minutes walking and you will enter the fantastic world of Tintoretto. He has worked here for almost 25 years, decorating St. Roc School, a former brotherhood assisting people during terrible plagues. The huge and dramatic Crucifixtion is unforgettable!
