The second itinerary is a pleasant walk from Piazza San Marco to Rialto and back, passing in front of the Teatro la Fenice, which like the mythological bird, has risen several times from its misadventures, the typical Campo (Square) Sant'Angelo, Palazzo Contarini with its wonderful Scala del Bovolo (elliptical stone stairway) and Campo San Luca. Once on the river bank of the Grand Canal, one crosses the famous Rialto Bridge to visit the market, an old financial and business centre of the Republic of Venice, and then return to Piazza San Marco via the Mercerie (the quickest way connecting the political and religious heart of Venice to the economical, business centre of the Rialto) or via the area where Marco Polo's house is situated and through another famous square, Campo Santa Maria Formosa.
The tour takes about 2 hours, does not include visits to the monuments and can be combined to another walk or visit to a museum or to a church.
