Day One
The mythical city of Seville lies in the heart of Andalucia embracing both shores of the Guadalquivir River. Without a doubt, it is one of the most important historic centres of Europe and is home to a host of timeless monuments including the Giralda Tower, the magnificent Gothic Cathedral and the Palacio del Alcazar. Its cultural treasures include la Torre del Oro (formerly an Arabic defensive structure, later a warehouse used to store the gold that was arriving from the Americas).
Arrive in Seville today and head for your three (or four) star city centre hotel. Seville is a wonderful city both by day and by night. The best way to orientate yourself is by taking a ride in one of the horse drawn carriages that can be found conveniently located around the city. The Spanish eat late, so no matter what time you arrive you will be able to enjoy tapas and wine in the city centre bars and restaurants.
Day Two
Today you will have the option of visiting a local BHS approved equestrian centre where you will be able to ride. You can choose between hacking and a lesson. Many of the horses here are pure bred Andalucians and you will soon appreciate why they are becoming more and more popular as riding horses. The countryside around Seville is a delight and depending on the time of year you could find yourself riding through fields of sunflowers, wheat, cotton, oranges or peaches, or through olive groves with ancient trees still carefully tended and nurtured. If you prefer to enjoy the city sights, make sure you visit The Cathedral, The Torre d’Oro and the wonderful Moorish Alcazar.
Day Three
After breakfast you will have the option of visiting the Donana National Park, Spain's largest protected Wildlife Park. It is home to wild horses, various reptiles, fallow deer, wild boar, flamingos and many endangered species including lynx and imperial eagles. This fragile ecosystem also provides some of the best free bird watching in Europe. You will be able to explore the park's varied landscapes and wildlife either in 4 x 4’s with your own guide, or you may choose to ride along the pristine beaches and onto the trails that pilgrims take to the shrine of El Rocio. Here, you will begin to understand why horses are a national treasure in Spain. Return to Seville later today.
You really can’t visit Andalucia without witnessing at firsthand the passion of The Flamenco Dance! The origin of this dance is still unknown, although it is generally believed to be a mixture of gypsy and Arabic dance. What is not in debate though, is the passion and fervour of the performers as they combine acoustic guitar with singing, dancing and staccato hand clapping. We can offer you a night to remember as you combine dining with entertainment at a top class Flamenco Bar in Seville.
Day Four
Breakfast in the hotel. Today you will have a last chance to enjoy the wonderful and historic city of Seville. A boat cruise along the river is an enchanting way to spend a few hours. Back on dry land, as you explore the narrow side streets and marvel at the different architectural styles you will realise why so many painters and artists have fallen in love with this city over the ages. In fact, you will most likely find that Seville has found a place in your own heart, it certainly found one in mine!
