The Bourbon Kings conferred the ROYAL PALACE OF ARANJUEZ a privileged, cosy, sensuous and luxurious spot. Its painting collection of Fernando Brambilla about the Royal Places is famous among art experts of the world. This guided visit will be completed with an easy walk through the most ravishing French and English styled GARDENS OF ARANJUEZ , whose beauty inspired, among others, the eminent expressionist painter Joaquín Rusiñol, his friend, the notable French composer Eric Satie and, of course, maestro Joaquín Rodrigo (Aranjuez mon amour, the Song). After a 20’ drive we will arrive to the Family Winery ‘’Bodegas Jesús Díaz’’ in Colmenar de Oreja which is an unknown but awesome village in the beautiful deep countryside of Madrid. Bodegas Jesús Díaz is located in an old renaissance convent which is the ideal place to taste excellent wines and delicate ‘bruts nature’. Yes, the experience of 4 generations of Family Díaz has resulted in surprising wines of Garnacha, Tempranillo, Malvar, Macabeo and Perellada. This marvellous wines are not mass production, therefore, almost impossible to find it abroad. But now you are here, ‘’enjoying heaven’’ and being sure that this enchanting place will rest for always in your mind. Can you imagine an old oval square surrounded by small houses with balconies which is also used for bullfights ? This is CHINCHÓN and its old churches, middle age relics, singular atmosphere, its wide and panoramic sights to the rich agricultural fields, its growing handicraft industry, its famed anise liquor... Other strong visit points: Driving through small COUNTRY ROADS embellished with vineyards and olive fields we will arrive ALCALÁ DE HENARES which is proud to have the 16th. century San Ildefonso University building (UNESCO World Heritage Property ) and to be the birthplace of Cervantes (author of Don Quixote) and the first assignment of Saint Ignatius of Loyola (Founder of the Jesuits Order ). We will visit the house of Hippolytus, a roman villa with remainders of the 1st to the 5th centuries A.D.; the Calle Mayor (Main street), the longest porticoed street in Spain, centre of the old Jewry; the Cathedral-Magistral of Saints Justo and Pastor, a work of late Gothic period built which was in the past a Jesuit University. But this historic place is also the ‘’capital of storks’’. They have always embellished the Alcalá de Henares, churches, palaces and monuments with their elegant presence and their nests, and they can be now regarded as the perfect symbol of the coexistence between natural and cultural heritage.
