Belle Epoque on the French Riviera

Nice has one of the most important Belle Epoque heritage of France after Paris. The Rusian and British aristocracy were numerous, since the end of the 18th century, to choose Nice and the French Riviera as holiday resort. This tour offers to follow the steps of this winter tourists along the Riviera.

The Belle Epoque starts in 1860 and ends around the 20's when starts the 'crazy years'. The stays of the aristocracy last from October to April. 

Instead of staying in hotel, several tourists are building palaces, like the castle of the British known as well as the castle of the crazy man, amazing pink building, oriental style.

The Bourgoisie raise the firts condos, in the Musician district, meanwhile the Russian colony built the exceptional Russian Orthodox Cathedral Saint Nicholas, the largest Russian church in the world outside Russia.

The British are settling in Cimiez district where they stay in hotel built for them, now all changed into appartements.

Afternoon go to Monaco, where since 1863, with the construction of the Casino and the Opera House, are built the first de luxe hotels :  Hotel de Paris and Hotel hermitage.

The fastuous life on the Riviera ends with the construction of Negresco Hotel in Nice in 1912, before the world falls in the chaos of the WWI.
