Not so far from Prague, just on the confluence of Vltava and Elbe rivers, in large vineyards, there is a small town of Mělník with a lovely Renaissance castle. After 1989 it became the property of the primary noble Lobkowicz family and most of halls have been carefully refurbished. At first you will visit the castle interior and you will admire furniture, large collections of paintings, engravings, porcelain. If we have a chance our group will be guided by the owner of Mělník, Lady Bettina Lobkowicz, living in the castle and looking after the local wine production.
After the visit you will have an opportunity to go down to the cellar for wine tasting. The Mělník area is famous especially for its white wine („Ludmila“) but you will taste red wine as well. The first grapevine came to Czech lands the 14th century from Burgundy in France as the Czech King Charles IV lived there and enjoyed local wine. After his return to his Czech kingdom he started to found large vineyards all around the capital. At the present time the most vineyards is located in the Southern Moravia.
In the cellar there is a constant low temperature, don´t forgot your sweater please. Of course, at the exit you will find a shop where you can get bottles of wine you tasted. Cheers!
Entrance fees: 8 EUR/pers.
