The Slovak Republic´s capital is only one capital in the world situated on the borders with two states. Bratislava (once Pressburg or Pozsony), located at the foot of Male Karpaty Mountains, is full of monuments and particularities of several historical periods and architectural styles, the city can offer a wide spectrum of historical sights, cultural events and an abundance of museums, galleries and exhibition halls. Mainly in a couple of last years when became the capital of the Slovak Republic and the place of important political, cultural, commercial, scientific and educational institutions, Bratislava passed through a rapid development, the city beautified, the ancient monuments have been restored, the new ones added.
In the downtown you can admire the Main Square, traditonal market place and a centre of contemporary life. Among the most exciting monuments belong the Old Town Hall, Primatial Palace (on December 26, 1805, the famous Peace Treaty of Bratislava was signed there between Napoleon I and the Austrian emperor Francis I.), early Gothic Franciscan Church, Michal´s Gate from the 14th century, wonderful St. Martin´s Cathedral – place of Hungarian kings and their wifes´ coronations. On the hill above the city centre there is a castle with a nice observation point, you will see the whole city and its surroundings. Also from the top restaurant on the new bridge over the Danube there is a breath-taking view. A lot of narrow, tortuous and very busy streets with picturesque coffee-bars and shops escalates a beauty and glamour of the city.
After arriving to Bratislava you will have a grand city tour, above all it will be an opportunity to get acquainted with all interesting places, you will have a short stop on the castle hill as well. Then you will be taken to the city centre and our guide will show you the historical sights which worth visiting. You will have enough time for your individual walks, visits of museum and galleries, maybe for tasting excellent Slovak wine.
