Buried under the ground is where a lot of Rome's history, architecture and art treasures are hidden.
Our visit will start at the Basilica of San Clemente, a unique lesson in Rome's many-layered history: a Roman house, a pagan temple, an ancient lower Basilica decorated with frescoes and an upper-layer Basilica filled with mosaics.
Nearby, on the Caelian Hill we will walk through a wonderful complex, a testimony of Roman architecture from a 1900-year-old condominium to more refined buildings added over a period of 400 years that still contain their original decorations.
We will then drive along 'the Queen of the Roman roads', the Old Appian Way, to visit the Catacombs, the most ancient monument of Christianity.
